Conveniently located just outside the Triangle, this course prepares responsible armed citizens to safely identify, assess, and engage threats when visibility is limited.
Most defensive encounters don't happen on a sunny afternoon. They occur during the hours of darkness, inside dimly lit buildings, parking lots, and other environments where target identification becomes just as important as marksmanship. This course focuses on the knowledge and practical skills needed to safely operate a firearm in low-light conditions while making sound decisions under pressure.
Whether you carry a handgun for personal protection, keep a firearm for home defense, or simply want to expand your defensive training, Nightfighter develops skills rarely taught in traditional firearms classes.
Why Choose Low-Light Firearms Training with us?
Low-light shooting requires far more than holding a flashlight. Success depends on positively identifying what you're looking at, managing light effectively, understanding how darkness affects human vision, and making legally and ethically defensible decisions before pressing the trigger.
At Trace Armory Group, students train through structured drills designed to build confidence while reinforcing safe firearm handling. Every exercise has a purpose, and instructors provide individualized coaching to help students improve measurable performance under realistic lighting conditions.
Training takes place at Woody's Rifle Club in New Hill, providing an excellent environment for realistic evening firearms training. Students regularly attend from Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, Morrisville, Durham, Chapel Hill, Pittsboro, Sanford, and surrounding communities. Most students can reach the range in approximately 30 to 45 minutes from downtown Raleigh.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a weapon-mounted light?
No. Students may attend with a quality handheld flashlight, a weapon-mounted light, or both. The course discusses the strengths and limitations of each system.
Is this a handgun or rifle class?
Nightfighter: each student brings one type of firearm to the class, and we bundle the class by firearm type on the line. For example, all handgun students shoot together; once they're complete, it's the rifle students' turn to learn the same task. Equipment requirements are listed with each type of firearm.
Is this an advanced class?
Nightfighter is not an introductory firearms course.
Students must already possess safe firearm handling skills and be capable of operating their chosen firearm without basic instruction.
To attend this course, students must:
- Show proof of recognized firearms training (NRA, USCCA, Trace Armory Group alumni, Law Enforcement, Military, or equivalent)
- Understand and demonstrate safe firearm handling
- Follow all range commands and safety procedures
- Safely employ their firearm throughout live-fire exercises
North Carolina Concealed Carry certification alone does not satisfy this prerequisite.
Students who cannot safely handle their firearm may be removed from training for the safety of everyone on the range.
